He attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School in California early in his career. Here he began his college football life. Here he was a member of the Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits school team. As a senior member of the school team, he owned the honor of being a high school All-American that was considered a top prospect by all major recruiting services.
After passing through school life, he moved to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). During his time studying at this college, he represented the UCLA Bruins football program. The duration of his college career was from 2002 to 2005.
In his college career, he started 32 times with the college team, the Bruins, in 49 games.
